Talking Therapies is working closely with Autism in Mind (AIM) to help more Autistic people access Talking Therapies to get the help they need to improve their mental health. We’ve worked to improve our service to ensure it meets the unique needs of Autistic individuals when they are accessing therapy.

All staff have had training from Autism in Mind (AIM) to improve their understanding of Autism and we have met with Autistic Adults who have been through our service and listened to what they would like us to do differently to better meet their needs. We have adapted some of our treatments to ensure we are providing you with the right treatment that will help.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

  • Support sessions from Autism in Mind to understand if Talking Therapies is the right fit for you currently.
  • Support from Autism in Mind to self-refer in to Talking Therapies or they can refer you to us through our new pathway.
  • Support from Autism in Mind to attend your appointments and to listen to any feedback you might have.
  • A new initial appointment format from Talking Therapies. This now includes a dedicated section where we can learn about you and explore the adjustments, we can make to support you throughout your journey. We have a list of things we can offer so you do not need to think of these on your own, but if you do have some suggestions, we would be happy to listen.
  • A variety of appointment methods – we can complete appointments over the phone, virtually using Microsoft Teams or Accurx or face to face in one of our venues.
  • After your initial appointment, you can agree with the Therapist which of our therapies might be helpful for you. We have devised information about all of these so you can see what it might be like.
  • We will check in with you at the end of every appointment to understand if there is anything we could be doing differently to support you.

We are really interested in hearing your feedback, please email us at Stsft.mhadminteam@nhs.net. If you would like us to follow up with you, please add your name to the email. If you would prefer to provide anonymous feedback, you can contact us via phone or letter. All feedback will be treated confidentially.
