Sunderland Children and Young People's Mental Health Service has a new way of helping children and young people while they wait for treatment, called Social Prescribing.
Social Prescribing involves working with someone, sometimes called a link worker or social prescriber, who will find out more about the young person, focusing on what they need, what matters to them and what they are interested in. They then connect them with groups within their community that provide various types of support, such as arts and cultural programmes, social groups, or nature-based activities. We want to find out if social prescribing whilst waiting for treatment is helpful.
At the moment this is a study that we are doing with researchers at University College London, to find out if this new way of helping young people is helpful.
NOT EVERYONE WILL BE OFFERED THIS AT THIS STAGE.
We will contact you if we feel this might be appropriate for you.
