What happens during the assessment?
The therapist will meet with the child/young person and their parent/carer. Our initial assessments usually last up to an hour. This will involve a discussion about all aspects of life, the difficulties faced and the young person’s expectations.
Below are some of the things we ask about:
- Presenting difficulties relating to mood, behaviour, and worries.
- Routines and daily life such as sleep, appetite, and activity levels
- Safety and vulnerability
- How things are at nursery/school/college
- Family life and friendships/relationships
- Early history (development and milestones)
It is normal to feel a little anxious about the appointment, but our therapist will do their best to help you feel comfortable and relaxed.
